One of the my more annoying traits is that I get distracted by new and shiny things. Especially when it comes to technology and the skills it requires to do my job. I get my hands on some new piece of tech, learn just enough to get the job done/be dangerous, then get distracted and move on to something else. Sometimes that is just the nature of my job, but other times I could be leveraging what I learned into other areas to be more productive/better. This year I am going to try to do six months of "A Month of X." Every other month I will be posting at least once a day on this blog about a particular technology I use. That way I can do research on the next subject matter and have posts ready to go. It is more for my own benefit that I am doing this, because if I take the time to explain something to someone, even in a blog, it means I will develop a better understanding of the subject matter, a deeper understanding. This is along the lines of a Three Person Teach idea. "To teach is to learn twice."
The month of January will be "A Month of Vi(m)." The reason it is "Vi(m)" is because I am going to focus on vi basics first and then start adding the specific functionality that Vim has. Also, besides the shell, I use vim the most daily, so the better I am at it, the better I will be at my job.
Happy New Year everyone. See you in 2009.
