Month of Vi(m): Starting Vi

For purposes of this series I am assuming you are starting vi from a terminal emulator for the purposes of this post. Terminal in OS X, Konsole, Xterm, anything like that will work.

A resolution for the new year

One of the my more annoying traits is that I get distracted by new and shiny things. Especially when it comes to technology and the skills it requires to do my job. I get my hands on some new piece of tech, learn just enough to get the job done/be dangerous, then get distracted and move on to something else. Sometimes that is just the nature of my job, but other times I could be leveraging what I learned into other areas to be more productive/better.

Awstats freaking rocks

So at work we are providing a mirror to various software projects via FTP. We want to get a better analysis of what is happening with our FTP server so I installed awstats. Holy crap is it awesome!

In your face, son!

The evil SLO has had the shit kicked out of them. Not revenge but Justice has been served.

Seriously, what the hell?!

O.k., URL Scan is a great tool. I personally think it is stupid that it is a separate download for IIS, but I am not the one releasing it so whatever. Here is my major confusion though.

Note to my small readership

On the left there is a link called "Images". That is where I post pictures. Let me know when links in blog posts are incorrect.

Yay! Working on my "skillz" saves the day.

I have been messing with lock picking since this years Defcon and have gotten alright at it. Yesterday it saved the day for me. I had a used Minidock for my T40. It was locked and I could not find the keys that came with it. Out come my picks I got at Defcon and about 2 minutes later of playing with it and I am in. Bam! I feel like Napolean, I have lock picking skillz, now I need to work on my numchuck skillz.

Set Phasers on....Dork.

So it is Halloween and that is awesome and all, but I am not in the mood this year for doing much for it. Nekkid time with Charlize Theron maybe. Anyway, I was just getting lunch and I see a dude walking up to the same taco stand I am at from a mile away, wearing a Star Trek uniform. He has the full on outfit, not unlike the picture above, but way worse because you can tell he spent a lot of money and time into it. Now, I am not making fun of the fans of the Star Trek, I have seen every episode of the original at least four times, one of my fondest memories I have is me and my dad watching Next Generation together. I like the series, I am a Sci-Fi fan. But I am not down with people into the cosplay. I do not know why it is, but when I see people do it, it makes me beat up on 'em. After I remind myself that it is not socially acceptable to destroy a member of the Federation, Captain Virgin has ordered with his friend and they are eating right next to me so I cannot help but hear the conversation that they are having. I think Nerd-boy's friend is as astounded as I am with his friend's outfit, because that is what the conversation is about. Apparently the uniform the guy is wearing is from the Star Trek movie "First Conact". As soon as I hear that I think to myself "Man, I really liked 'First Contact', it is good even if you are not a Trek fan. In fact, I think it is the second best of all time, right after 'Wrath of Khan'." Right after I think that I hear this from the guy who still lives in his parents' basement (*cough* trailer *cough*), "Yeah, First Contact is the second best movie in the whole franchise, right after Wrath of Khan." Sonofabitch! Proving again how in tune I am with the No-Getting-Laid community. Goddamnitalltohell, just sign me up for some AD&D 3.5 Edition rulebooks and I will pen & paper your ass to death.

Me and Youtube

The above is really not that awesome of a video, the sound is horrible. I just wanted to play with Youtube. I go there everyday, yet never add anything to it. Now I have. Eh.

Holy Freaking crap.

Vegas for teh win. Vegas: 1, me: blegh

I still ache a bit and it has been more than 24 hours since I left. Yesterday was much worse, I could not function as a human being when I woke up, until about 3PM. Some things I am documenting for the next trip:

  1. Stay no more than 3 nights if you are on a savage burn.
  2. Cheap flights are more expensive than driving, but so worth it for the trip back.
  3. Certain people in my entourage do not do well with the Dragon.
  4. Always be hydrating. This is a good life rule, but extra important in Vegas, mid-bender.
  5. Have an MVP come with you, we had a guy pull a Helicopter on three chicks for our last night. (Note: As far as know there is no such thing as the Helicopter maneuver, I was just very confused when he got back to the hotel room)

Also, knowing people who know people is key. I need to work on that, I have too many friends who work in the hotel industry to not take advantage.

UPDATE: I also added some pictures link
